Description
Steam fittings are the connectors, valves, traps and accessories that make up a complete steam distribution system. Whether you are building a new steam network or replacing worn components, Megtraco Kenya supplies the full range of industrial steam pipe fittings — properly rated for pressure and temperature, compatible with BSP and NPT thread standards, and in stock for fast supply across Nairobi and Kenya.
Steam Fitting Types We Supply
Pipe Fittings
- Elbows — 90° and 45° elbows (standard and Weldon type) for directional changes in steam pipework. Available in equal and reducing sizes.
- Tees — Equal and reducing tees for branching steam lines to multiple outlets or equipment.
- Unions — Three-piece unions for pipework sections that need regular disconnection for maintenance without cutting pipe.
- Reducers — Concentric and eccentric reducers for stepping down pipe diameter between sections of different sizes.
- Nipples & Sockets — Hexagon nipples, barrel nipples and banded sockets for joining pipe runs and extending lines.
- Flanges — Slip-on and weld-neck flanges for high-pressure connections and equipment isolation points.
- Caps & Plugs — For blanking off unused ports and dead-end pipe terminations.
Steam Valves
- Globe valves — For throttling and regulating steam flow. Suitable for frequent operation and precise flow control.
- Gate valves — Full-bore isolation valves for on/off service on main steam headers.
- Ball valves — Quarter-turn shut-off for fast isolation of branch lines and equipment.
- Check valves — Prevent backflow of condensate into steam lines.
Steam Traps & Strainers
- Float & thermostatic (F&T) traps — Continuous condensate discharge for heat exchangers, air heaters and coils.
- Thermodynamic (TD) traps — Compact, robust traps for steam mains and tracer lines.
- Inverted bucket traps — For high-pressure steam mains where water hammer is a concern.
- Y-type strainers — Protect traps and valves from pipe scale and debris. Essential upstream of every steam trap.
Materials & Pressure Ratings
Steam fittings are available in the following materials depending on operating pressure, temperature and application:
- Carbon steel — Standard for industrial steam systems up to high temperature and pressure. Most common for main headers and distribution lines.
- Stainless steel — For food processing, pharmaceutical and hygiene-critical steam applications.
- Cast iron — For lower-pressure, lower-temperature steam systems such as space heating.
- Brass — For small-bore fittings and instrument connections.
Thread standards: BSP (British Standard Pipe) and NPT (National Pipe Taper) available. Flanged connections to ASME/ANSI and DIN standards on request.
Typical Applications in Kenya
- Hospitals & clinics — Steam for sterilisation autoclaves, CSSD departments and surgical theatres
- Hotels & institutions — Commercial kitchen steam equipment, laundry presses and dish-washing systems
- Industrial laundries — High-volume steam for pressing, finishing and drying operations
- Food & beverage processing — Heating, pasteurisation, cooking and CIP cleaning systems
- Textile mills — Steam for fabric treatment, dyeing and calendering processes
- Manufacturing & engineering — Process heating, curing ovens and steam-heated tanks
- LPG boiler systems — Steam generated by LPG-fired boilers feeding distribution headers
Why Good Steam Fittings Matter
Undersized or low-quality fittings cause pressure drop, water hammer, condensate flooding and early component failure. Megtraco Kenya supplies fittings rated and tested for steam service — not plumbing fittings repurposed for steam. The right fitting in the right material at the right pressure rating reduces maintenance costs and keeps your system running efficiently.
Supply & Technical Support
Our team can advise on fitting selection, material compatibility with your operating pressure and temperature, and the correct trap specification for your system type. We supply individual fittings, complete sets for new installations, and replacement components for existing systems.
